What does proprietary blend mean on a supplement label?

A proprietary blend groups ingredients under a combined amount. If individual quantities are not disclosed, the total alone cannot tell you how much of each active you receive.

Individually disclosed active amounts let you see how a formula is composed. A blend’s total weight alone does not tell you the amount of every ingredient within it.

Why the total is not enough

Imagine two formulas that each list a 1,500 mg blend. Without individual amounts, you cannot conclude that the same ingredients contribute the same weights. An equal total could hide very different compositions, even if the front-label ingredient names look similar.

What disclosure makes possible

A separate amount for each active lets you compare serving sizes, identify repeated ingredients across products and ask more precise questions about study doses. It also lets you see where comparisons stop: matching milligrams still do not establish matching extracts.

The five entries are 500 mg organic Lion’s Mane, 300 mg Bacopa, 250 mg citicoline, 250 mg Rhodiola and 200 mg L-Theanine. Together they total 1,500 mg per two capsules. Three of those entries also carry named standardizations.

Transparency is useful, not a clinical result

An open label does not by itself prove effectiveness, independent testing or superiority over another formula. Its value is that the product is easier to inspect. Use that information alongside relevant evidence and your own suitability questions instead of treating disclosure as a substitute for research.

Quick answer

Can I estimate an undisclosed ingredient amount from the blend total?

Not precisely. Ask the manufacturer rather than assuming an equal split or copying the amount from a different product.
